Inclement Weather Policy—Elkridge Baptist Church
Monday – Friday In the event of weather-related closures or early dismissals by the Howard County School System, or if a Snow Emergency Plan or Hurricane warning is in effect in our area, Elkridge Baptist Church activities will be impacted as follows:
- Weddings and funerals: These will proceed at the discretion of the pastor and deacons.
- All other events (e.g., worship services, meetings, ministry activities, banquets, celebrations): These will be canceled or rescheduled at the discretion of the pastor and deacons, or ministry leader.
If the weather improves later in the day and roads are passable, evening activities may proceed at the discretion of the pastor and deacons, prioritizing the safety of the church family.
Sunday Service/Weekends/Other When school closure guidance is unavailable, such as on weekends, activities at Elkridge Baptist Church will be affected as follows:
- Weddings and funerals: These will proceed at the discretion of the pastor and deacons.
- All other events: Canceled or rescheduled if a Snow Emergency Plan or Hurricane warning is in effect. If no warning is in effect, the pastor and deacons will make decisions based on prayerful judgment and safety concerns.
Notification In the event of a church closure, notifications will occur through the following methods:
- Announcement on the website: elkridgebaptist.com
- Announcement on the church's Facebook group page.
- When possible, a sign will be placed on the main entry doors.
- Deacons will attempt to personally contact individuals in their families who may not have access to the above methods (phone, text, email etc.).
Personal Responsibility Church members and participants are encouraged to use their best judgment during inclement weather. Individual circumstances, such as road conditions and travel distance, should guide decisions about attending church events.
Note: Hurricane warnings are often issued well in advance for coastal areas. Since our area is inland, we will act on a warning only when a hurricane is expected to impact us within 24 hours.
